Sedation Dentistry

We understand that receiving endodontic care can create anxiety for some patients, causing them to delay early treatment that might prevent the need for more extensive treatment in the future. We strive to make every patient comfortable in our relaxing environment and will the take the time to address any concerns or anxiety before beginning treatment. While most patients find endodontic treatment to be less stressful than they anticipated, we are equipped to provide sedation dentistry in our office so that our patients can relax and feel at ease during treatment.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, sometimes referred to as “laughing gas,” is an effective and safe sedation agent that is inhaled through a mask that fits over your nose to help you relax. Mixed with oxygen, Nitrous oxide allows you to breathe normally through your nose and within minutes you should start to feel the effects. You may feel light-headed or a tingling in your arms and legs. Some patient’s comment that their legs and arms feel heavy. Ultimately, you should feel comfortable and calm. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly after the small mask is removed. Talk to the doctor about whether nitrous oxide would be a good option for you.

IV Sedation

We are able to refer you to highly qualified anesthesiologists and their staff  to provide IV sedation and general anesthesia services. You will travel to another office location such as a surgical center or hospital where these services are provided and our doctors will travel to that location to fulfill all of your endodontic needs.

IV sedation is an alternative sedation that allows patients to be relaxed during procedures. Your anesthesiologist will combine the use of IV sedation along with a local anesthetic so you have little to no discomfort and will have no memory of the procedure.

For IV Sedation, our patients’ vital signs, such as blood pressure and heart rate, are continuously monitored by the anesthesiologist and their trained staff. Patients should plan to have someone bring them to the appointment and to be available to drive them home following treatment.
